In this animation produced for a Biomedical Communications introductory 3D modeling course, osteocytes within lacunae in bone matrix pulse gently in atmospheric lighting. This short video would in theory be part of a longer animation on bone anatomy. Sculpting of the cells and bone was done in Zbrush, while lighting and rendering completed in Arnold. Textbook descriptions, illustrations, and electron microscopy images of osteocytes and bone were used as references.
