Cover illustration for the Kono Lab at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology on how cells respond to plasma membrane damage.  Inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery with gold, the image represents how membrane damage is repaired yet leaves an irreversible imprint, transforming the cell into a new and distinct state.
